With the cold weather creeping in more each day, it can cause a lot of aches and pain. This can be doubly true for your teeth.

If your teeth hurt when it gets cold outside, then you should go in and see your dentist.

There are many reasons this could be the case. Here are the most common reasons that your teeth may hurt when the weather gets super cold.

Cold Weather Tooth Pain Causes

You may have a cavity that wasn't there the last time you had a dental checkup. This can allow the cold to reach deeper into the tooth, causing pain. You may have a filling that is no longer effective due to further decay. This old filling may have to be removed, and a new one put in.

Your crown or bridge margins could be off from where they used to be, causing more exposure for the cold to the more sensitive parts of your teeth. If you have periodontal disease, your gums may have receded, allowing the root of your tooth to become exposed to the cold.
One of your teeth may have an infection.

This can cause extreme sensitivity to anything cooler or warmer than normal body temperature. The same goes with an infection in your gums. Bruxism can also cause problems with your teeth to where they would be more susceptible to the effects of cold air coming into your mouth.

Should you notice that cold air makes you gasp, and not just because of how cold it is, you need to go in and see your dentist. He or she can help, but they only know to help if you go in and explain the problem to them. Contact our office today so you don't suffer from this for even one more day!
