Digital X-Rays
Tigard, OR

Digital X-rays - Lisa Gitelson DMD and David Wilson DMD - dentist tigard orAt Lisa Gitelson, DMD and David Wilson, DMD, we are proud to offer a wide variety of proven, high-tech solutions to modern day dentistry. We like to stay ahead of the technological curve in our practice and have found that one of the most important tools in our arsenal is the digital X-ray machine. Digital X-rays help to speed up your cleanings and examinations while also providing a tremendous educational value to you, the patient. It is even substantially more safe than traditional X-ray machines.

How is digital better?

Digital X-rays offer us so many advantages over traditional X-ray machines. For one, you are exposed to only a tiny fraction of the radiation that a traditional machine exposes patients to. While traditional machines exposed patients to a safe level of radiation, this digital machine cuts the radiation output even further.

We also don’t have to wait for X-rays to be developed. Using digital X-rays means using digital viewing formats, meaning we get to see the pictures of your teeth as soon as they are taking on a computer monitor. These X-rays are in high definition and are easy on the eyes. Because they are available to view so quickly, we can share them with you and go over any issues we find. Patient education is critical to help you see what’s going on in your mouth and understand how to fix any issues that we find.

What X-Rays Help Us to See

Using X-rays we are able to see areas that we wouldn’t otherwise be able to see. We can peer in between teeth to see if cavities are forming and even see inside teeth. We are able to see issues like tumors and cysts that might otherwise be quite hard to see. We can even check on the levels of bone in your jaw.

One of the biggest advantages that X-rays provide us is the ability to see the very beginning stages of tooth decay. It can be impossible to see or detect cavities in the very early stages with the naked eye, but with X-rays we can often pick out the signs and symptoms of early tooth decay. When we are able to find signs of tooth decay while it is still in the early stages, many times we can help you to prevent cavities from ever forming. By catching the early stages of tooth decay, we are often able to save you the time and money of having to have a filling placed.

Part of Your Dental Examination

The X-ray is just the first part of your dental examination. During your twice yearly checkups we will clean and examine your teeth to ensure that there are no threats to your oral health. We always check existing dental appliances and restorations to ensure their continued viability.

It should be noted that you will not have a series of X-rays taken at every visit to our office. Unless there is a significant issue that arises, we will only take one set of X-rays per year to keep your dental records up to date.

Call us today at (503) 985-8945 to schedule your appointment. We look forward to seeing you smile!
