Closeup of Porcelain Venner before it's applied to a tooth at Tigard Dentist Lisa Gitelson, DMD & David L. Wilson, DMDIt can be tough to smile when you don’t like the way your teeth look. For this reason, we here at Lisa Gitelson, DMD and David Wilson, DMD offer porcelain veneers to our patients. With porcelain veneers, we can fix just about any cosmetic problem you may have, from crooked to damaged teeth. Porcelain veneers offer you the ability to alter your smile in any way. They are permanent, long lasting, and a great way to give you confidence in your smile.

What are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are very thin pieces of porcelain that we craft to fit over the front and sides of your teeth. They act as the new “face” of your teeth. Because porcelain is a very durable material that mimics the look and feel of natural teeth quite well, it does a fantastic job of making your smile look great. On top of that, porcelain resists staining and fading much better than natural teeth, which means you can count on them to remain beautiful for years to come.

Reasons for Porcelain Veneers

People get porcelain veneers to fix a wide variety of cosmetic dental issues. Veneers can be used to fix spacing issues, so if your teeth are too crowded, or too far apart we can alter the gaps using veneers.Veneers are great at altering the size of teeth, for example, if your teeth appear too small we can give them veneers to make them appear larger.

If you have an issue with the way your smile looks, porcelain veneers have the ability to fix your smile.

The Process of Having Porcelain Veneers Placed

It usually requires two trips to our office to place porcelain veneers. During the first visit we will prepare your teeth to receive the veneers by shaving off a portion of the outer enamel. This leaves your teeth a little bit smaller than they originally were. This is essential to ensure that the thin strips of porcelain don’t appear too large to be your real teeth. Once your teeth have been prepared to receive the veneers we will take an impression of them. This impression will be used to create custom fitted porcelain veneers.

During your second trip to our office, we will have the finished porcelain veneers and we will place them on your teeth. Each veneer will be applied to your teeth with a special dental adhesive. Once we have the veneers positioned on your teeth perfectly, we will set them in place permanently by using an ultraviolet light that hardens the dental adhesive.

Porcelain Veneer Care

Taking good care of your veneers is important. It’s ok to treat them as you would your natural teeth but refrain from chewing very hard objects like ice. Because the porcelain is so thin, there is a risk of cracking or chipping it if you bite hard objects or foods.
