Will Your Dental Insurance Cover Tooth Whitening?

Posted on 6/10/2016 by Boeckel
A dental insurance claim form with a stethoscope on it.You pay for your dental insurance every month, so when the time comes that you want to use it for a dental procedure, you'll want to know what kind of coverage you'll get.

The same is true for tooth whitening, but while there are a variety of different whitening methods out there that can alter the appearance of your smile, dental insurance doesn't usually pay for these services.

Call Your Dental Insurance Provider

The only way you will truly know if your dental insurance will cover your whitening treatment is to give them a call. The customer service number on the back of your insurance card will lead you to a representative that can help you to better understand your benefits.

Try Other Whitening Methods

There are some other whitening methods out there that might be able to help you get a whiter smile while you are trying to figure out your insurance situation.

Whitening toothpastes will gently polish away stains on the surface, and white strips that are sold in two-week packages will require that you wear a bleaching solution on your teeth several times per day throughout the treatment process. Both options have varying results, but one might work well for you.

Talk to Your Dentist

If you are interested in professional tooth whitening but are disappointed that your dental insurance isn't going to cover any of the cost, the best thing that you can do is talk to your dentist.

He may offer take home systems that are surprisingly affordable, allowing you to get your teeth the beautiful shade of white that you want without spending a fortune. For in-office procedures, which tend to be more expensive, your dental office may offer a payment plan system to help you cover the costs.

If you want whiter teeth today, contact our office and discuss your options.
